Job description

Description

Are you passionate about supporting Colorado's small business and entrepreneurial community?

Colorado Enterprise Fund (CEF) is a nonprofit business lending organization dedicated to supporting the success of small businesses in Colorado. We provide access to capital for entrepreneurs who are unable to secure traditional financing. Our primary focus includes business owners who may be low-to-moderate income, minorities, women, or veterans. We’re committed to creating meaningful impact in Colorado’s communities by providing equitable and affordable business financing for entrepreneurs who cannot access bank loans or other financial resources.

Why This Role Matters

At CEF, we see our community impact through job creation, wealth building for disadvantaged populations, and the growth and success of the businesses we fund. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we offer loans, grants, and free business coaching to entrepreneurs to help them succeed.

Our Guiding Principles
  • Collaborative: We achieve more together than alone.
  • Continuous Improvement: We are always learning and getting better.
  • People-Centric: We put people-borrowers and colleagues at the center of everything.
  • Simplify & Remove Barriers: We make it easier for people to access what they need.
  • Open & Direct Communication: We say what we mean and mean what we say.
  • Flexibility/Agility: We adapt quickly and stay effective when things change.
  • Impact Driven: We measure success by the difference we make.
Mission-Focused Team, Real Community Impact

The team, led by the Director of Loan Administration, provides packaging, pre-underwriting, closing, and loan servicing resources to support borrowers throughout the loan life cycle. The Senior Loan Servicer’s primary responsibility is quality control and monitoring of day-to-day loan servicing activities performed by the Loan Servicing Specialist, ensuring accuracy, timely completion, complete documentation, and alignment with applicable Small Business Administration (SBA) requirements and CEF's internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This scope includes borrower communications and delinquency follow-up, payment processing, reconciliations, paid loan processing, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filings and continuations ,loan reporting, and servicing records. The role operates with a high degree of independence, provides technical guidance, documents review findings, monitors corrective actions through resolution, and contributes to continuous improvement.

CEF offers a hybrid work environment that blends in-person connection with opportunities to be remote. Employees must be Colorado-based and can expect to travel to our Denver headquarters at least three days per week during onboarding, then one day per week onsite thereafter to support ongoing cross-functional collaboration with peers and leaders.

At Colorado Enterprise Fund, we believe in a skills-first approach to recruitment and employment. This means focusing on what you can do and how you can grow, rather than traditional metrics alone. We are committed to adhering to anti-exclusion practices, removing barriers to access, and enhancing opportunities for all individuals based on merit and potential.

Requirements

On a given day, your work will include these essential duties:

Payment Operations & Processing
  • Oversee bi-monthly batch payment collection, ensuring accurate execution and timely reconciliation across all cycles.
  • Review and monitor daily loan payment processing across ACH, check, online portal, and wire channels, including recovery-related payments for charged-off loans and loans on non-accrual status; verify timely posting, correct transaction codes, and supporting documentation, and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Resolve complex or non-standard payment posting situations independently, applying sound judgment and documenting decisions clearly.
Exception & Processing Error Management
  • Oversee the end-to-end exception management process for Non-Sufficient Fund (NSF) returns, payment reversals, and exception items processed by the Loan Servicing Specialist. Approve resolutions for accuracy and completeness, track open items through timely correction, and elevate unresolved or non-standard matters requiring additional review or approval.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for exception resolutions, maintaining a complete and auditable record that supports accountability and compliance readiness.
Reconciliation & Financial Accuracy
  • Own completion of daily, monthly, and quarterly reconciliations prepared by the Loan Servicing Specialist; review supporting records, investigate complex discrepancies, and verify that corrections are documented and unresolved items are escalated before applicable close deadlines.
  • Serve as the Loan Administration’s lead partner with Accounting and Finance team members to maintain an accurate reconciliation log; identify recurring discrepancy patterns and bring forward proposed corrective actions.
  • Conduct quality-control reviews of Loan Servicer’s reconciliation work, communicate findings and required corrections, verify resolution, and provide technical guidance to reduce recurring errors.
Servicing Quality Control & Monitoring
  • Oversee borrower communications, delinquency follow-up, and account updates for timely completion and accurate documentation; verify that accounts requiring Credit and Collections Specialist review are escalated promptly with appropriate context.
  • Lead reviewer of paid-loan files for accurate payoff calculations, cleared funds, reconciled balances, completed checklists, paid-in-full correspondence, and required lien or collateral releases; verify required approvals and retained release confirmations.
  • Review UCC financing statements, continuation filings, and terminations for consistency with approved documentation and required approvals; monitor filing windows, expiration dates, acceptance confirmations, and resolution of rejected filings.
  • Monitor Colorado Credit Reserve (CCR) registration deadlines and review CCR Claims packets, loan reporting data, and credit bureau reporting for completeness, accuracy, reconciliation to supporting records, and required review before submission or transmission.
  • Review servicing records, alerts, and ticklers for accuracy and timely follow-up; maintain a record of quality-control findings, required corrections, and resolution, and escalation of recurring errors, overdue items, and compliance concerns to the Director of Loan Administration.
  • The Senior Loan Servicer also directly performs these servicing duties as needed during high-volume periods, staff absences, or other backup coverage needs, while maintaining required reviews and approvals.
Compliance & Recordkeeping
  • Directly responsible for all loan files and loan servicing system records, keeping them audit-ready at all times. Ensure all documentation consistently meets current SBA SOPs and CEF internal standards without exception.
  • Apply SOPs consistently across all servicing activity; model continuous improvement to SOP updates, by flagging outdated or incomplete procedures in partnership with the Director of Loan Administration.
  • Stay current on SBA servicing requirements, and applicable Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) regulatory obligations; serve as a knowledgeable resource for Loan Servicing Specialists on compliance-related questions.
  • Serve as the team's primary point of contact during internal file reviews, external audits, and regulatory examinations, communicating findings directly and accurately.
Team Contributions & Collaboration
  • Openly communicate and collaborate daily with Credit, Closing, and other departments to ensure smooth file handoffs and shared processes.
  • Coordinate workload priorities and deadlines with the Loan Servicing Specialist, monitor outstanding items, and proactively communicate capacity constraints and coverage needs to the Director of Loan Administration.
  • Directly perform Loan Servicer duties as needed to address transaction volume, staff absences, or backup coverage, including borrower communications, payment and exception processing, reconciliations, paid loan processing, UCC filings and continuations, reporting, and recordkeeping. When performing the underlying work, coordinate required independent quality-control review and approvals with the Director of Loan Administration or another designated reviewer rather than serving as the sole reviewer of that work.
  • Demonstrate our guiding principles in all aspects of work, including working to identify and escalation cross-functional process friction points that slow down service delivery.
Technical Acumen
  • Proficiency in using business software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Loan Servicing systems, and our internal core Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems to document customer consultations [JJ1] and interactions.
  • Navigate customer records across our internal core CRM system modules and blueprint stages to allow cross-functional partners to stay updated on progress.
  • Use servicing systems and tracking tools to monitor borrower payment activity, timely communications, follow-up, reminders, and completion; identify overdue items and verify documented resolution.
  • Experience working with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets), including creating formulas and formatting for readability, and supporting others in using them.
What You Bring:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in loan servicing, loan administration, or a related financial services operations role. CDFI, community bank, or credit union experience is a plus!
  • Demonstrated expert proficiency with loan management or servicing software; experience with Downhome Loan Manager (DLM) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of SBA loan servicing requirements, including current SBA SOP’s, or the demonstrated ability to learn and apply regulatory frameworks quickly.
  • Familiarity with ACH payment processing, NSF handling, and grace period/late fee administration.
  • Payment Posting Accuracy: Strong aptitude and accuracy in high-volume loan payment posting across all channels, including reliable batch sequencing.
  • Financial Accuracy & Reconciliation: Advanced level reconciliation skills, including independent dispute resolution and exception queue management.
  • Quality Control & Monitoring: Ability to review servicing transactions and documentation, identify errors and missing information, communicate clear corrective guidance, monitor deadlines, and verify resolution while maintaining appropriate review and approval controls.
  • Cultural Emotional Intelligence: Flexibility and agility to respectfully work across a broad range of cultures, backgrounds, personalities, and working styles.
As an established CDFI, we offer the following benefits:
  • Health, vision, dental and life insurance, paid parental leave, as well as 100% employer-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • CEF also offers a monthly hybrid work stipend, and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match up to 5% of an employee’s contribution.
  • Our paid time off policies include ten (10) paid holidays per year, fifteen (15) days paid vacation to start, with an increase in year two, along with paid health and wellness time.
