Job summary

Birchwood Terrace Rehabilitation and HealthCare is seeking a compassionate Activities Assistant to support personalized activities, small groups, and facility-wide events for residents.

You will work closely with the Activity Director and care team to design person-centered activities using music, art, games, reminiscence, and other therapeutic approaches to promote socialization and quality of life.

Qualifications

• Friendly, compassionate and professional interaction with residents, families, staff, volunteers and community organizations.
• Enjoys working with older adults and creating meaningful experiences in long-term care.
• Able to collaborate with nursing, therapy, dietary and other facility staff as part of the resident care team.
• Demonstrates patience, flexibility, and coping skills with residents experiencing cognitive, emotional or physical changes.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Previous experience with older adults in recreational, healthcare, senior living or nursing settings is preferred.
• Two (2) years of related experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Activity Director with planning and implementing daily and monthly activity programming.
• Lead and participate in individual, small group, and large group activities.
• Provide person-centered activities based on residents’ interests, abilities, preferences, and needs.
• Utilize music, art, pet therapy, games, exercise, reminiscence and other therapeutic recreational programs.
• Encourage resident participation and promote socialization, independence, comfort, and quality of life.
• Maintain accuracy of records of activities, resident participation, and attendance.
• Organize, store, and maintain activity supplies and equipment.
