Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco is seeking an Audio Engineer to be the senior audio authority for livestreams, broadcasts, studio recordings, and on-location events. You will design resilient audio systems, serve as A1 when failures are visible, and deliver exceptional spoken-word audio across live, remote, and AI-enabled workflows.

Lead audio crews and freelancers, optimize signal paths, manage RF and latency, and ensure high-quality voice capture for keynote presenters, panels, and podcasts.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in live, broadcast, and studio production.
• Experience as A1 for high-profile events.
• Expert in gain structure, routing, EQ, dynamics.
• Advanced networked audio and DSP skills.
• RF coordination and wireless mics.

Responsibilities

• Own audio design and A1 for complex broadcasts.
• Build and operate redundant audio paths with monitoring.
• Mix full-duplex speech-to-speech with AI models.
• Design signal flow for studios and portable systems.
• Lead preproduction: designs, input lists, rehearsals.
• Diagnose and repair faults during live production.
• Lead audio crews and freelancers under pressure.
• Own multitrack recording and archival workflows.
• Onsite travel globally and after-hours support.
