Covington is seeking an experienced, career-track litigation paralegal with substantial work experience in AmLaw 100 firms or specialized boutique law firms. The successful candidate will serve as a lead paralegal on large, complex cases and provide informal mentorship to junior paralegals at the firm.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform all elements of litigation case management, including file management, case calendaring, discovery, and trial activities.
- Utilize existing systems and procedures and / or establish new procedures to facilitate document organization and retrieval for the case team.
- Coordinate and oversee tasks of junior paralegals and support staff on large litigation matters and investigations from discovery through trial / arbitration.
- Liaise between attorneys and support staff to ensure paralegal services meet team expectations.
- Interact with outside entities such as courts, government agencies, witnesses, vendors, and law firms to gather information or coordinate activities for trials and arbitrations.
- Draft, review, and analyze legal documents; conduct legal research under attorney supervision.
- Provide guidance and training to junior paralegals on firm and litigation procedures.
- Create and maintain effective working relationships to promote a positive work environment.
- Continuously develop skills in response to changes in the work environment or profession.
- Adhere to firm policies, practices, and priorities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Maintain high standards of confidentiality, discretion, and integrity with sensitive firm and client information.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years litigation paralegal experience in an AmLaw 100 or specialized litigation firm.
- Experience with all litigation stages, including intake, discovery, and trial.
- Experience preparing for and attending trials / arbitrations / hearings.
- Experience coordinating trial / arbitration logistics and vendor negotiations.
- Developing and maintaining case file processes for paper and electronic files.
- Strong accountability and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, courteous and professional interaction at all levels.
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with changing priorities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, in leadership or subordinate roles.
- Resilience under pressure with the ability to integrate special projects into workflow.
- Judgment to make appropriate decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in court and administrative filings, including e-filings.
- Experience with e-discovery databases like Concordance, Relativity, NUIX Discover.
- Familiarity with litigation support software (e.g., LiveNote, CaseMap) is preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Knowledge of cite-checking, Bluebook, and CA Style Manual rules.
- Availability for overtime and travel as needed.
- BS / BA degree from an accredited college or university.
