Responsibilities

• Take and defend depositions.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Draft dispositive and procedural motions in state and federal court.
• Assume increasing responsibility for case strategy and day-to-day case management.
• Manage and conduct discovery in complex commercial matters.
• Perform legal research and prepare briefs, memoranda, and other substantive filings.
• Support and participate in arbitration and mediation proceedings.

About the Commercial Litigation Practice

Musick Peeler’s Litigation Group is the firm’s largest and most diverse practice, representing clients in a broad range of complex civil and business disputes in state and federal courts, as well as through arbitration, mediation, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

The Opportunity

Musick Peeler is seeking an attorney with 5+ years of experience to join our Commercial Litigation Group. The successful candidate will take on meaningful responsibility from day one, managing key aspects of active cases while working closely with experienced partners and gaining additional exposure to arbitration and mediation alongside traditional court litigation.

Responsibilities include:

• Take and defend depositions.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Draft dispositive and procedural motions in state and federal court.
• Assume increasing responsibility for case strategy and day-to-day case management.
• Manage and conduct discovery in complex commercial matters.
• Perform legal research and prepare briefs, memoranda, and other substantive filings.
• Support and participate in arbitration and mediation proceedings.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• JD or foreign equivalent from an accredited law school
• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
• 5+ years of litigation practice experience – including experience in discovery management, motion practice, legal research, depositions, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to providing excellent client service

The work environment is collaborative and collegial. This position is flexible to be remote, hybrid or entirely in office at candidates preference. For mentorship purposes, a hybrid schedule is appreciated by the firm but not required.

The firm offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including eligibility for a year-end discretionary bonus.

The salary range for this position is $200,000+ depending on experience.
