Job summary

Seneca Resources is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our enterprise IT team in Birmingham, AL. The role focuses on designing, administering, and optimizing Windows and Linux environments, VMware, and Microsoft 365 services to support core business systems.

You will mentor junior staff, contribute to infrastructure modernization, and ensure reliability across on-premises and cloud components while engaging with stakeholders on strategic IT initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in IT, CS, Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in systems administration or enterprise IT operations
• Strong experience administering Windows Server and Linux in enterprise environments
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi
• Experience with Microsoft 365 and Active Directory environments
• Proficiency with PowerShell, Bash, or other automation scripting languages
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and performance issues
• Strong communication for technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize Windows and Linux server environments
• Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi infrastructure, including configuration and performance tuning
• Support enterprise storage, server hardware, virtualization platforms, and core services
• Create and maintain system architecture diagrams, documentation, and procedures
• Monitor health, performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliability
• Administer Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive) and Active Directory
• Implement security best practices for authentication and endpoint management
• Assist with infrastructure design, platform improvements, and roadmaps
• Support cloud-based solutions across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS
• Lead upgrades, migrations, deployments, and deployments with project teams
• Mentor junior admins and collaborate with IT teams on strategic initiatives
• Participate in disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity planning
