Job summary

MCSG Technologies is seeking a senior Linux Systems Engineer to support NASA GSFC lab and IT operations. You will administer Linux systems, monitor environments, manage licenses, and maintain virtualization, with a focus on security, reliability, and efficiency.

The role requires hands-on troubleshooting, strong technical judgment, and the ability to help build a resilient IT infrastructure for mission-critical services. Hybrid work with three days onsite at Goddard in Greenbelt, MD.

Qualifications

• Linux system administration experience in Ubuntu and RHEL.
• Shell scripting and automation experience.
• Experience with production deployment, monitoring, and operations.
• Knowledge of configuration management and networking (TCP/IP).
• Ability to obtain elevated privileges per federal standards.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience with Linux-based servers and virtualization.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems (Ubuntu and RHEL).
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues.
• Perform system maintenance and software installations in Linux environments.
• Schedule installations, upgrades, and maintenance per IT policies.
• Maintain monthly security patches to address cybersecurity risks.
• Use Ansible for consistent configurations across systems.
• Support ongoing operations of Apache webservers and code hosting services.
• Audit workstations and servers for compliance with standards and security policies.
• Configure IT hardware, services, and storage per standards and project needs.
• Provide continuous monitoring of application environments, servers, licenses, and VMs.
