Gray Tier Technologies has an opening for a Linux Systems Administrator for the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract. This role involves the Operations, Sustainment, Maintenance, Repair, and Defense of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) within the DOD Information Network (DODIN), supporting the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).
Location: Primarily remote, with candidates required to be within commuting distance to Scott AFB, IL, Ft. Meade, MD, or Ogden, UT for on-site support.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure system reliability, availability, and security through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution to maintain high availability and operational continuity.
- Maintain configuration management and baseline control across development, test, pre-production, and production environments.
- Conduct security scans, analyze results, implement resolutions, and ensure compliance with DISA STIGs.
- Operate and maintain systems, including patching operating systems and applications.
- Perform and test backups regularly.
- Monitor and optimize system and network performance, including RHEL and VMWare systems.
- Configure, manage, and maintain system components such as application servers, load balancers, databases, and operating systems.
- Deploy systems in lab environments, perform testing, and validate configurations.
- Manage configuration items, licenses, SSL certificates, and hardware/software baselines.
- Support deployment, upgrades, and updates to production environments, including installing new software and hardware.
- Lead infrastructure and application migration to AWS cloud.
- Create and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Analyze system failures, outages, and performance issues for trend identification.
- Coordinate with vendors for product evaluation and procurement recommendations.
- Collaborate with network engineers and developers to troubleshoot environment issues.
- Escalate issues to vendors and coordinate resolutions.
- Manage user and service account access.
- Provide support during business hours, on-call, and emergency situations, including extended hours and weekends.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience (additional experience or training may substitute for degree).
- Active Secret security clearance.
- Ability to obtain Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT II certification within 60 days.
- Experience managing RHEL 7 Linux servers in production.
- Experience with VMware ESXi virtualization.
- Experience deploying and managing infrastructure and applications in AWS.
- Knowledge of DevOps tools and automation.
- Experience with complex software deployment, security, and network configuration.
- Experience with McAfee HBSS in Linux environments.
- Scripting experience in Bash, Perl, or Python.
- Thorough TCP/IP networking knowledge.
- Experience applying security best practices per DISA STIGs and SRGs.
- Experience with enclave Ethernet switches, SAN, and NAS support.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC).
- Active Secret with SSBI or Top Secret clearance.
- Experience managing HPE BladeSystems and related management tools.
- Experience with Ansible automation.
- Knowledge of Git version control.
- Understanding of PostgreSQL database management.
- Experience with enclave switches, SAN, and NAS configurations.
- Experience with ticketing systems like BMC Remedy or Atlassian JIRA.
- Experience with Windows Server 2012 R2 or higher.
