TEKsystems is seeking an expert Linux Platform Engineer in Burlington, NJ, to own the enterprise Linux stack, drive automation, and partner on an Azure migration. You will manage RHEL/SUSE, implement Ansible playbooks, and introduce Terraform while maturing CI/CD and cloud-native workloads.

The role emphasizes a true engineering mindset, disruptively solving complex problems, and delivering across priorities in a hybrid, 2-3 day on-site pattern with ongoing 24x7 readiness.

Qualifications

• Expert-level Linux platform design, automation, and lifecycle management.
• Experience with RHEL/SUSE, Ansible, Terraform, and cloud-native tooling.
• Familiar with CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Engineer, configure, and maintain enterprise Linux platform standards across RHEL and SUSE environments.
• Build and mature Ansible automation — develop playbooks and roles from scratch.
• Introduce Terraform for infrastructure as code during cloud adoption.
• Own Linux OS lifecycle planning including patching and upgrades.
• Manage on-prem storage, NAS, and backup platforms.
• Support and contribute to Azure migration using Terraform and Azure services.
• Implement observability and SRE practices across the Linux estate.
• Lead root cause analysis and remediation for critical issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations and maintenance windows.
• Produce and maintain runbooks and implementation plans.

Job description

The Linux Platform Engineer will own the engineering, automation, reliability, and lifecycle management of our Client's enterprise Linux platform supporting corporate and distribution center operations. The environment consists of approximately 1,000 on-premises Linux servers along with NAS, storage arrays, and backup platforms. This person will play a critical role in modernizing the Linux estate — maturing Ansible automation, introducing Terraform, and helping drive the organization's upcoming migration to Azure.

This is not a break-fix or purely operational role. Our client needs an engineer with a true engineering mindset who can take a set of complex problems, analyze them thoroughly, design the right solutions, and drive them to completion across multiple competing priorities. The team is small but the responsibilities are significant — this person will be expected to contribute at a high level from day one.

Looking forward, the role will increasingly involve containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS), CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, and cloud-native workloads as the client executes its Azure migration. Some of this work is already underway with cloud-native workloads — our client wants this expertise in house to help drive the migration forward intelligently.

• Engineer, configure, and maintain enterprise Linux platform standards across RHEL and SUSE environments
• Build and mature Ansible automation — develop playbooks and roles from scratch to drive configuration management, patching, and provisioning
• Introduce and implement Terraform for infrastructure as code as the team moves toward cloud adoption
• Own Linux OS lifecycle planning including patching, OS upgrades, version currency, and vendor supportability
• Manage and support on-prem storage estate including NAS, storage arrays, and backup platforms
• Support and contribute to the upcoming Azure migration — help assess workloads, define migration strategies, and implement cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Azure-native services
• Implement modern observability practices and SRE best practices across the Linux environment
• Serve as an experienced technical escalation point for complex Linux platform incidents in a 24x7 environment
• Lead root cause analysis and permanent remediation for recurring or high-impact issues
• Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation
• Contribute to containerization and CI/CD initiatives as the environment modernizes
• Participate in on-call rotation and maintenance windows
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and implementation plans

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $145000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
