Job summary

BCforward in Addison, TX is seeking a Senior Linux Infrastructure / Systems Engineer for a 12-month contract (potential contract-to-hire). The role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining secure Linux environments, with emphasis on automation and monitoring.

You will install and configure servers, develop DR strategies, and build tooling to improve operational efficiency. Strong scripting and DevOps experience are required, with hands-on work in virtualized Linux environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of production Linux experience.
• Strong scripting in Python, Ruby, Perl, or Bash.
• Experience with automation and DevOps practices.
• Experience with Linux servers in virtualized environments.
• Experience installing and maintaining Bind, Apache, MySQL, and Nginx.
• Knowledge of Puppet or Chef configuration management.
• Familiarity with MS SQL, Oracle, or DB2 databases.
• Experience with application support, web tech, APIs, and microservices.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience working with Linux operating systems in production.
• Strong scripting skills in Python, Ruby, Perl, or a related language; proficiency with BASH.
• Experience with Ping, SSO, and certificate management.
• Knowledge of automation technologies and DevOps practices.
• Experience with Linux servers in virtualized environments.
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, Apache, MySQL, and Nginx.
• Solid understanding of configuration management tools such as Puppet and Chef.
• Knowledge of databases such as MS SQL, Oracle, or DB2.
• Experience with application support, web technologies, APIs, and microservices.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with cloud computing.
• Experience with open-source application suites such as WordPress or Drupal.
• Master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

Work Arrangement & Interview Process

• Hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days onsite per week. Onsite day 1.
• Start window: October or November.
• Interview process: 1-2 rounds. In-person required. Video required.
• No sponsorship now or in the future.
