Job summary

DRW is seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to join the Linux Engineering Team in Chicago. You will help deliver a highly performant, scalable Linux infrastructure used by trading desks, developers, and internal customers.

You will own configuration, deployment, and day-to-day operation of Linux environments, while actively engaging with users to understand needs and drive automation, reliability, and scale.

Qualifications

• Extensive Linux support and engineering in large high-availability environments.
• Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Scripting/automation in Bash, Python, or similar language.
• Strong knowledge of Red Hat-based and Debian-based platforms (CentOS, Rocky, Alma, Oracle, Ubuntu).
• Understanding of Kerberos, DNS, DHCP; Kubernetes, VMware, OpenStack.
• Experience tuning Linux for high-performance, low-latency trading apps.
• Solid IP networking knowledge (routing, multicast).

Responsibilities

• Serve as a liaison between Linux Engineering and trading desks and teams.
• Configure, deploy, and maintain Linux environments in a declarative, repeatable way.

DRW is actively seeking a Senior Linux Engineer for our Linux Engineering Team.

The Linux Engineering Team is responsible for providing a highly performant, scalable, and stable infrastructure that enables trading desks, developers, and our internal customers to run their applications as efficiently and deterministically as possible. Our team takes pride in leaving our environment cleaner than we found it and ensuring our users have a consistent experience.

What you’ll be working on:

• Collaborating with a global Linux Engineering team to coordinate work, engineering projects, changes, and on-call schedules
• Serving as a liaison between the Linux Engineering team and various trading desks and teams
• Configuring, deploying, and maintaining DRW’s Linux environments in a declarative and repeatable manner
• Actively monitoring the health of the entire Linux server environment and performing day-to-day troubleshooting
• Application packaging and maintenance of software repositories
• Automating repetitive system administration tasks
• Evaluating and recommending new hardware and software technologies or solutions

You will be an ideal member of the team if you have:

• Experience working with configuration management tools, ideally Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
• Scripting and automation experience with one or more of the following: Bash, Python, or another high-level programming language
• Extensive Linux support and engineering experience in a large, high-availability environment with more than 10,000 servers
• Strong knowledge of Red Hat-based and Debian-based platforms, including CentOS, Rocky, Alma, Oracle, and Ubuntu
• Solid understanding of protocols such as Kerberos, DNS, and DHCP, and applications such as Kubernetes, VMware, and OpenStack
• Previous experience tuning and debugging Linux systems for high-performance, low-latency trading applications
• A firm understanding of IP networking, routing, and multicast traffic

The annual base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
