North Carolina State University in Raleigh seeks a Linux Desktop Support professional to manage hardware and software for 200+ desktops running Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu. You will ensure reliable desktop operation, provide end-user support, and resolve issues efficiently.

This role requires Linux administration, OS upgrades, user management, and collaboration with IT teams. A Bachelor's degree and experience with RH and Ubuntu are preferred; on-site work schedule is typical.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience administering physical Linux systems (not virtual) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu.
• Knowledge of network protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN; local firewalls management.
• Strong hardware troubleshooting for desktops, workstations, and laptops.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware and software administration for 200+ desktops/workstations/laptops running RHEL and Ubuntu.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux OS and applications.
• Provide end-user support for Linux desktop issues and resolve incidents promptly.
• Troubleshoot networking, printing, drivers, and NAS within GNOME environment.
• Conduct OS upgrades, patches, and security enhancements.
• Manage user accounts and permissions on Linux desktops.
• Monitor backups and archive data as devices are replaced.
• Document configurations and troubleshooting procedures.
• Stay updated on Linux desktop technologies and trends.
