Job summary

The Freeman Company is seeking a Lighting Project Designer to plan and coordinate lighting for produced events, serving as the local expert on gear and tech. The role educates staff and interfaces with multiple branches and warehouses, supporting the Audio Visual & Event Technology team.

This in-person, full-time position may be based in Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Seattle, requiring travel up to 25% and a strong foundation in lighting design, DMX, and project

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ lighting production experience, with 5+ years in corporate events/entertainment/theater.
• Ability to engineer instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Advanced understanding of lighting systems, DMX, and lighting design fundamentals.
• Experience with Hog or GrandMA lighting consoles.
• Experience with AutoCAD, VectorWorks and/or Lightwright.
• Strong leadership and training capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop lighting designs and coordinate pre-production, onsite, and post-production activities within budget.
• Create wiring diagrams and lighting plots for shows and brief on-site personnel.
• Recommend lighting personnel during scheduling to optimize resources.
• Evaluate Lighting Specialists and maintain Freeman’s quality standards.
• Oversee equipment logistics and inter-branch gear utilization.
• Research and recommend lighting purchases to stay current with industry trends.
