SENIOR LIFEGUARD (RECREATION LEADER SPECIALIST VIII-N/C)

Join to apply for the SENIOR LIFEGUARD (RECREATION LEADER SPECIALIST VIII-N/C) role at City of Long Beach.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is a nationally recognized and award-winning organization with 1,100 full-time/part-time staff and a budget of $74 million. It oversees facilities and programs that serve a diverse community, including 170 parks, 27 community centers, 3 pools, beaches, and marinas.

This is an unclassified, non-career, seasonal, part-time position, with scheduled hours varying and no guaranteed minimum. It does not require Civil Service application and offers limited benefits.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting staff training and overseeing daily operations
  • Instructing swimming classes and water aerobics
  • Monitoring pools and maintaining records
  • Acting as lead in emergencies and performing routine maintenance
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three years of aquatics or related experience (or equivalent education/volunteer experience)
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification
  • CPR/AED, First Aid, and Water Safety Instructor certifications
  • Reliable transportation
Desirable Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and ActiveNet
Selection Process:

Applicants must submit a complete application. The process includes an interview and swim test (200 yards swim, stroke demonstration, brick retrieval, treading water). The process may be adjusted based on application volume.
