The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is a nationally recognized, award-winning organization with 1,100 full-time/part-time staff and a $74 million budget. It oversees facilities and programs serving a diverse community, including 170 parks, 27 community centers, 3 pools, 6 miles of beaches, and 3 marinas.
The department offers a variety of recreational programs and leisure opportunities for all ages and cultures, including youth sports, summer camps, classes, sailing, aquatics, teen activities, skateboarding, and supervised activities at parks and schools. Annually, nearly 10,000 youth participate in free youth sports, and approximately 12,000 youth are involved in non-Department sports leagues.
The Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Lifeguard at Belmont Pool, Silverado Pool, and Martin Luther King Jr. Pool.
This is an unclassified, non-career, seasonal, part-time position. It does not require Civil Service application processes. Communication will be handled through the department. Benefits are limited; health/dental/vision are generally not provided, but sick leave may be available. Hours vary weekly, up to 1,600 hours per year, with no guaranteed minimum. This is an at-will position.

Selection will be based on application review, supplemental questions, and may include an interview and swim test (200-yard swim, stroke demonstration, brick retrieval, treading water).
