Job summary

Symetra Financial Corporation is seeking a Senior Life Underwriter to review life insurance applications, assess risk, and deliver competitive offers within guidelines. You will mentor peers, partner with Medical Directors, and contribute to underwriting excellence.

The role supports a remote-friendly, flexible schedule with periodic travel and opportunities to influence underwriting practices across the organization.

Qualifications

5+ years of Life underwriting experience.
Strong underwriting judgment, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring others is a plus.
Organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Clear, confident communicator who builds trust and collaborates effectively.

Responsibilities

Deliver thoughtful underwriting decisions within authority and guidelines.
Assess medical and non-medical risk to offer upfront terms.
Collaborate with Medical Directors, leadership, and peers on complex cases.
Represent Symetra professionally in virtual and in-person settings.
Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and customer experience.
Travel periodically for business needs and leadership development.
