About Us

Einstein’s Office of Biotechnology and Business Development is looking to recruit a Senior Licensing Associate to serve a key role in the Office’s strategic and revenue-driving operations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The main purpose of this position is to increase Einstein's licensing and collaborative relationships with commercialization partners (industry, entrepreneurs, investors). The incumbent is expected to effectively managea portfolio of life science, biotech and healthcare technologies across thefull-life cycle of technology management. The Associate will identify novel intellectual property assets developed at Einstein, solicit new invention disclosures, evaluate technologies for commercial potential, participate in the development of commercial strategies, identify/assess licensees, draft license terms (financial and non-financial), negotiate, execute, and manage license agreements, inclusive of equity-bearing licensing relationships and other high-value initiatives and related projects. The Associate will also participate in project managing activities related to Einstein’s 2030 Acceleration Fund.The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of early-stage product development, be able to manage and prioritize a large portfolio of projects under time/resource constraints, concisely communicate in oral and written forms, and collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders and clients that lead to win-win outcomes.Synthesize scientific/technical information/data of early-stage inventions to understand the commercial potential and articulate the value proposition and commercial impact to potential commercialization partners, including entrepreneurs and investment groupsEvaluate Einstein technologies for their commercial/licensing/economic development potential: The incumbent will be expected to combine an understanding of patent law, science/technology, and commercial development with some industry and market experience and financial acumenSource and evaluate potential commercial partners for Einstein intellectual property assets, including start-up and other investment opportunitiesDraft and negotiate various agreements and term sheets (i.e., license, options, revenue-sharing, inter-institutional, preliminary patent management, confidentiality and collaboration) on behalf of EinsteinDiligently shepherd agreements through the negotiation and execution phases, by capturing discussions and intent in written agreements and effectively communicating status updates to investigators and upper management, as needed, on a timely basisDemonstrate ability to serve as lead negotiator in high-profile exclusive license agreements and agreements with start-ups involving equity and shareholder rights agreementsSolicit and assess new inventions for intellectual property protection and commercializationUnderstand Einstein/Montefiore scientific assets from various scientific disciplines and confidently interact with faculty/researchers/cliniciansEstablish a high level of understanding of Einstein faculty research interests and achievements and communicate and promote the information to form new collaborative opportunities internally and externallyDevelop and execute innovative strategies for the development/commercialization of technologies and actively market technologies to third parties: For any given technology the incumbent would be expected to develop and implement a marketing strategy.Leverage and establish new relationships with industry/pharma/drug development/regulatory professionals to engage with Office and provide critical feedback and insights into Einstein IP assets to prime them for commercializationIdentify potential projects for internal investment and provide project management oversight including selection and criterion processes with the goal of increasing value of Einstein IP and maximizing licensing interest and ROI.Review and prepare office metrics on a quarterly basis and as needed for internal and external reports, such as AUTM.Serve as a general business development resource for Einstein, and, as such, the incumbent may be utilized to perform other Office functions including administrative, general support, novel program development, and internal and external Office awareness program and material developmentThe Associate is expected to collaborate, mentor and train non-senior office members (including interns) regardless of the reporting structurePrepare materials for the Office’s participation at external events and for internal seminars and represent the Office, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree and 3-5 years experience in academic and/or commercial biotech/pharma arenas. A Ph.D. degree is strongly preferred.Experience in contract negotiations a must.Strong knowledge of intellectual property law and a high level of understanding of biomedical research and technology transfer practices. Experience with the drug development process and/or FDA regulations and/or medical mobile applications and/or government sponsor obligations (Bayh-Dole) is a plus.History of successful negotiations and execution of complex deals regarding intellectual property assets with ability to provide deal sheet.Thorough understanding of corporate & securities agreements preferred.

Minimum Salary Range:USD $120,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary Range:USD $135,000.00/Yr.
