Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a Legislative Director for the Office of Senator Finegold to lead the Senator’s legislative agenda. This senior role advises, manages strategy, and oversees initiatives on bills, legislation, and constituent concerns, reporting to the Chief of Staff.

The position offers a salary range of $79,570 to $100,914, based on experience and training, with a full-time, day-shift schedule in the Senate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with the legislative process, public policy, or advocacy is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work across diverse personalities in a professional manner.
• Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to manage tight schedules and extended hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Research policy issues and draft legislation, amendments, and committee testimony.
• Collaborate with the Senator and staff to shape strategies and legislation.
• Monitor legislation affecting the district and sponsor/co-sponsor activities.
• Organize hearings, meetings, and events related to legislative priorities.
• Respond to inquiries from constituents, organizations, and legislators.
• Brief the Senator on key issues before meetings and sessions.
• Convene stakeholders to discuss priorities and persuade outcomes.
• Draft speeches, talking points, and remarks for the Senator.
