Job summary

Illinois Attorney General seeks a Senior Legislative Liaison to assist the Chief of Legislative Affairs in developing and advancing legislative priorities. The role provides policy guidance and acts as a key liaison with the General Assembly, agencies, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include monitoring legislation, drafting and negotiating legislative language, preparing briefings and testimony, and representing the OAG at hearings. Travel and occasional outside-hours work are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Arts degree required; master's or law degree preferred.
• At least 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience in legislative affairs or public policy.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating legislative language and strategies.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to exercise discretion and good judgement; manage multiple complex matters in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and advance the Office of the Attorney General's legislative priorities.
• Provide legislative analysis and policy guidance; serve as a key liaison with the General Assembly, legislative staff, state agencies, interest groups, and other stakeholders.
• Monitor and analyze legislation; recommend OAG positions and legislative strategies; draft and negotiate legislative language.
• Represent the OAG at legislative hearings and meetings; prepare briefings, testimony, talking points, bill analyses, and legislative reports.
• Communicate and advocate for OAG legislative priorities; monitor priority legislation; advise leadership on legislative developments; assist with inquiries; prepare summaries of enacted legislation.
• Coordinate legislative affairs staff and provide guidance and mentorship on legislative matters.
