Job summary

Hudbay seeks an Executive Director of External Affairs and Legal in Tucson, AZ, to lead legal affairs for Hudbay USA. The role includes drafting and negotiating agreements, managing litigation, supporting permitting, and guiding regulatory strategies with external partners.

The ideal candidate holds a Juris Doctorate, bar license in at least one state (Arizona preferred), and at least five years of experience in corporate and environmental law within a mining context.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state (Arizona preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of legal project operations and management experience.
• Experience in corporate, environmental, public lands, real estate or litigation law.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Assist with all legal issues related to Hudbay USA projects and related matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and real property agreements.
• Manage litigation and oversee external counsel strategy.
• Support permitting efforts and administrative appeals processes.
• Develop strategies for legislative and regulatory outcomes with external teams.
• Represent Hudbay at professional associations and public meetings.
• Monitor legal/regulatory changes and their impact on operations.
• Provide legal support for acquisitions, leases, and mining-related matters.
• Advise other US Business Unit departments and procure external expertise when needed.
• Ensure corporate governance and compliance with Hudbay USA policies.
