Job summary

DeepMind is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide expert legal support across commercial matters and product launches in an AI-focused environment. This role requires advising executive stakeholders on legal risks and structuring complex agreements to enable innovative AI applications.

The position emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with engineering, product, and research teams, and it entails navigating global regulatory and policy considerations in AI development and deployment.

Qualifications

• JD/LL.B./equivalent degree required.
• At least 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
• Experience advising globally on commercial and research matters, including intellectual property, data, and privacy issues in the AI space.

Responsibilities

• Structure, draft, and discuss complex commercial agreements, and supporting product and feature launches.
• Assist in providing impactful legal advice to a range of functional areas within DeepMind for the smooth and efficient running of the business on a day-to-day basis, including advising on contractual structuring, conducting legal research, and advising executive stakeholders on legal risks.
• Support the Legal team's initiatives to manage and track OKRs, coordinate legal processes, and report on key legal metrics in support of high-level team strategies.
• Lead complex commercial negotiations with major enterprise and consumer partners to enable the integration of next-generation AI applications across third-party surfaces and connected ecosystems.
