Job description

Location:Armonk, NY, US

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our global legal team responsible for management of litigation, arbitrations, and investigations across all Swiss Re's businesses and jurisdictions!

About the Role

In this role you will handle non-claims litigation and internal and external investigations, manage disputes in courts, arbitration and mediation, oversee outside counsel, respond to subpoenas and governmental/regulatory queries, and support colleagues in re/insurance claims on coverage and other disputed issues.

In addition, you will:
  • Provide support in the resolution of transactional/ M&A disputes and HR litigation in various jurisdictions.
  • Counsel the business on litigation risk, help resolve issues before formal proceedings commence and identify emerging areas of legal risk. Knowledge of eDiscovery practice and procedure is important.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with other members of the Dispute Resolution & Financial Crime Legal Advisory team and outside counsel
  • Work collaboratively with internal clients and legal and compliance colleagues; and share your knowledge in formal trainings and across a variety of platforms.

About the Team

The global Dispute Resolution & Financial Crime Legal Advisory team supports all Swiss Re's businesses and group functions. The team includes litigators, eDiscovery professionals, financial crime lawyers providing advice on competition and sanctions risk, and employment lawyers. The breadth and depth of the team's experience means that team members can leverage each other's expertise while continuing to expand their own knowledge base.

About You

We are looking for a standout colleague with excellent written and oral communication skills who consistently demonstrates strong leadership and strategic thinking, with a can-do attitude and ability to respond quickly to emerging issues or crisis situations, who enjoys working collaboratively and constructively with colleagues across a diverse range of backgrounds, functions, and regions.

Position requirements include:
  • You are a US qualified lawyer with 10+ years at a major law firm and/or corporation and have worked on commercial, multi-jurisdictional litigation and investigations, including insurance matters.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior executives and teams, including boards of directors.
  • Strong analytic and pragmatic litigation skills and are committed to providing high-quality, timely and pragmatic client service, based on a holistic view of risk, including legal, commercial, reputational and ethical issues.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $300,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
