Job summary

The Michaels Companies, Inc. is seeking a Sr Accountant - Lease Accounting in Irving, TX to manage accounting, reconciliation, and reporting for leased real estate. You will support monthly closes, ensure GAAP compliance, and collaborate with HR, Finance, and Internal Audit.

Responsibilities include preparing journal entries, reconciling lease accounts, analyzing lease agreements, and assisting with audits and SEC-related filings. MBA/CPA preferred; Oracle ERP and CoStar experience a plus.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required.
MBA and/or CPA, CMA preferred.
5+ years of general accounting experience.
3+ years lease accounting experience in retail.

Responsibilities

Prepare and record journal entries related to leases.
Reconcile lease accounts, accruals, and clearing accounts monthly.
Ensure GAAP-compliant accounting of leases.
Analyze new and amended lease agreements for appropriate accounting treatment.
Prepare monthly financial schedules for partner reviews.
Assist with quarterly and annual audit schedules and liaise with external auditors.
Monitor internal controls and evaluate accounting processes for efficiency and compliance.
Coach and develop staff; evaluate staff performance and advise on personnel decisions.
