Job summary

The International Baccalaureate is seeking a Senior Learning Architect to lead the design of professional learning across markets, focusing on micro-credentials, evidence-based adult learning, and portfolio-based credentials for teachers.

The role requires extensive experience in learning design, certificate pathways, and EdTech platforms, with a focus on scalable, modular learning and cross-functional collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years experience in a learning architect or senior L&D or instructional design role
  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience or higher; PhD preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in learning design, adult learning, teacher learning and knowledge structures
  • Demonstrated expertise in design of teacher professional learning systems
  • Experience developing certification pathways or micro-credentialing systems
  • Experience leveraging learning design with market input to develop content strategy
  • Experience developing competency-based learning models using data-driven and top-down processes
  • Proven track record of self-paced learning experiences for adults
  • Experience designing learning experiences with an evidence-based approach

Responsibilities

  • Design a recognition system with micro credentials aligned to the Capabilities Framework
  • Design scope, UI, and methodology for aligning outcomes to Capabilities Framework
  • Create learning journeys aligned to micro-credentials and coordinate handover to production
  • Ensure modules generate a portfolio of evidence for credential reviews
  • Design training for IB Educators to earn micro-credentials for prerequisites to IBEN roles
  • Promote micro-credentials as a currency of educator professional learning
  • Establish learning outcomes for micro-credentials in an open badging framework
  • Set policies for issuance and renewal of micro credentials and promote modular learning
  • Collaborate to incorporate micro credentials into IB Principles and Practices
  • Provide leadership across programs for current and future PD offerings
  • Lead new approach to professional learning currency and evidence-based adult learning

Job description

The Senior Learning Architect will be accountable for the learning experience design and adult learning within thea specific market (e.g., Non-IB/Consultancy, Adult Competencies, Onboarding, IBWS). As the design and learning sciences expert within the PL Design team the Senior
Learning Architect will lead the product design in the rollout of IB’s next-generation professional learning model.


Responsibilities

Duties:



  • Design a recognition system (i.e., micro credentials) of outstanding teaching practice aligned to IB’s Teacher Capabilities Framework, which together will be the recognition for all future formal and informal IB PD

  • Design the scope, user interface, and methodology for aligning learning outcomes learning experiences to the Capabilities Framework.

  • Design and scope sets of learning experiences and journeys which align to micro-credentials and ensure their smooth and timely handover to the production team

  • Ensure the design of the learning modules generate a portfolio of evidence of their professional learning so teachers have access to portfolio reviews to earn credentials

  • Design the training required for IB Educators to be awarded micro-credential for pre-requisites to IBEN roles.

  • As a thought leader ensure micro-credentials' value is recognized internally and externally, working with internal stakeholders across the organization to develop awareness and recognition of micro-credentials as a currency of educator professional learning

  • Establish the learning outcomes and parameters for all learning aligned to micro-credentials in an open badging framework

  • Establish policies for the issuance and renewal of micro credentials, and work with IB’s World Schools and Marketing divisions to promote modular learning and micro-credentials with schools.

  • Collaborate with Policy and Design team to incorporate micro credentials into the larger IB Principles and Practices

  • Leadership responsibility, decision making authority, and problem-solving responsibility for the content and design of professional learning (across all programmes) for their market portfolio for current and future professional development offerings.

  • Require to establish the new approach to professional learning currency, leading the IB into an evidence-based approach to adult learning, which impacts the IB’s PSP, Evaluation process, and brings IB PD to the forefront of teacher professional learning.


Qualifications


  • 7 -10 years experience in a learning architect or senior L&D or instructional design role

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience or higher; PhD preferred

  • Demonstrated expertise in learning design, adult learning, teacher learning and knowledge structures

  • Demonstrated expertise in design of teacher professional learning systems that deliver the intended outcomes with results demonstrated through efficacy research

  • Previous experience developing certification pathways or micro-credentialing system and designing the learning that aligns to the micro-credentialing system

  • Demonstrated experience leveraging expertise in teacher learning and knowledge with learning design and market input to develop a content strategy

  • Previous experience developing job-skills frameworks or competency-based learning models using data-driven (bottom up) as well as expert driven (top down) processes

  • A proven track record developing self-paced learning experience for an adult audience using scalable, efficient processes

  • Previous experience setting requirements, evaluating audience characteristics, and content and learning constraints when designing learning experiences

  • Strong knowledge of modern learning design, learning sciences, and latest instructional technologies

  • Expertise in leveraging technology, content specifications, processes, and team structures to deliver a content strategy at scale

  • Expertise in Learning &Development content production tools and processes and designing a learning experience with recognition framework in a platform

  • Effectively leads change management in roles and responsibilities, process, and design with stakeholders across multiple departments, being a change agent across the organization without which the role, product revenue, and larger PD strategy would not be realized.

  • Responsive to and flourishes in a fast-paced, innovative working environment

  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills

  • Able to work innovatively and iteratively to be responsive to stakeholder needs and manage risk within a long-term project

  • Proven ability to design complex learning models to modular, actionable learning activities

  • Extensive experience with common EdTech platforms (e.g., Learning Management Systems or LXPs) preferred

  • Strong team and cross-functional team collaboration skills

  • Knowledge of the IB and international education preferred
