Job description

Established in 1972, BEPS International School has spent over 50 years nurturing confident, independent learners and global citizens in the heart of Brussels. Set close to the Bois de la Cambre, our school welcomes around 300 students aged 2.5 to 18, drawn from more than 50 nationalities. When you join BEPS, you join a family.

Our Secondary building, redesigned in 2022 as an innovative 'co-learning' space, is home to our IB continuum: the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and, in the final years, the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and IB Career-related Programme (CP). We take a unique approach to the IB, placing creativity, critical thinking, and student agency at the heart of every subject. At BEPS, every moment is a learning moment.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, inquiry-based Mathematics and Science lessons across MYP and DP year groups, aligned with IB curriculum frameworks and BEPS’ Teaching and Learning Policy
  • Design learning experiences that foster critical thinking, scientific curiosity, and mathematical reasoning, challenging every student to reach their full potential
  • Use varied teaching strategies and a range of resources, drawing on the classroom, school environment, and digital tools to enrich learning
  • Adapt and differentiate planning based on ongoing observation and assessment, ensuring all learners are appropriately supported and challenged
  • Collaborate with the Learning Support team to plan clear objectives for students with individual learning needs
  • Assess student progress through both informal and formal methods in line with BEPS’ Assessment Policy, maintaining accurate and complete records
  • Contribute to IB curriculum development, including the design of MYP units of inquiry and DP internal assessments
  • Guide students through IB-specific requirements, including the MYP Personal Project and DP Extended Essay or subject-based investigations as relevant
  • Develop a caring, respectful relationship with each student, supporting their academic, social and emotional growth
  • Promote wellbeing and positive social skills, and safeguard students’ health and safety at all times
  • Monitor behaviour in accordance with the Student Wellbeing Policy and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Participate in pastoral meetings and Student Study Team discussions as needed
  • Communicate professionally and sensitively with students, parents, and colleagues at all times
  • Report on student learning, achievements, and effort through Parent Teacher Consultations, Student Led Conferences, and End of Year reports
  • Collaborate with specialist teachers, the Learning Support team, and wider school staff to ensure the best outcomes for every student
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, team meetings, INSET days, and professional development sessions
School & Professional Development
  • Engage in continuous professional development, staying current with IB developments, research in mathematics and science education, and best practice in inclusive and inquiry-based pedagogy
  • Contribute to the review and development of school policies and take ownership of an area of school development
  • Participate in and support whole‑school projects, events, and community occasions, including those that take place outside regular school hours
  • Bring the learning from professional development into daily classroom practice, ensuring a consistent and evolving approach across the team
Qualifications & Skills
Required
  • Recognised teaching qualification in Mathematics, Science, or a related STEM field
  • Demonstrable experience teaching Mathematics and/or Science at secondary level
  • Strong subject knowledge across both disciplines, with the ability to teach each to examination standard
  • Skilled in inquiry-based and student‑centred teaching approaches
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organisational skills
  • Collaborative by nature, and comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team
  • High level of digital literacy and openness to technology as a teaching tool
  • Enthusiastic, patient, creative, and with a genuine sense of humour
Preferred
  • Experience teaching within the IB Middle Years Programme and/or IB Diploma Programme
  • IB workshop training or category 1/2/3 certification in MYP or DP Mathematics or Sciences
  • Experience in an international school environment, working with multilingual and multicultural learners
  • Familiarity with Toddle or similar curriculum planning and learning management platforms
Personal Qualities
  • Intellectually curious and passionate about both Mathematics and Science as disciplines
  • Student‑centred, relationship‑driven, and committed to the growth of every individual learner
  • A reflective practitioner who actively seeks to improve their own teaching
  • Adaptable and flexible, thriving in a dynamic, international school community
