Job summary

University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a Major for the Protective Services Bureau to provide high‑level safety leadership and strategic oversight of a large civilian and sworn team on the Baltimore campus.

The role requires extensive law enforcement experience, supervisory ability, and strong political acumen to manage complex security operations and recruit/train staff across the department.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of a Maryland Police Training Commission–recognized Police Academy program.
• Successful completion of a Police Field Training program.
• Seven years of experience as a certified University Police Officer.
• Three years of police supervisory experience.
• Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission.
• Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide public safety leadership for campus, including emergency response and management.
• Lead a bureau of police and civilian staff, directing policy implementation and training.
• Coordinate security for high‑profile visitors, major events, and sensitive environments.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Police Administration or related field

Master’s degree and/or certifications preferred
