Job summary

The University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of Police and Public Safety seeks a Major, Protective Services Bureau, to lead a large civilian workforce and oversee executive protection. This mission-critical role blends civilian security management with communications oversight, mentoring a modern, high-functioning operation.

The Major will coordinate security for high‑profile visitors and major campus events, ensure compliance with laws and university policies, and report to the Deputy Chief

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Administration or related field.
• Minimum seven years of experience as a certified University Police Officer.
• Three years of police supervisory experience.
• Preferred: Lieutenant experience and executive protection background.
• Certification as a Maryland sworn Police Officer and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Public safety for the campus; emergency response and management.
• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate activities of the Protective Services Bureau.
• Coordinate executive protection and security planning for leaders, visitors, and events.
• Develop policies and procedures; ensure compliance with laws and university regulations.
• Provide regular updates to senior leadership on incidents and investigations.
• Recruitment, performance, and training of staff; maintain a well-trained team.
• Serve as liaison with senior administrators and external agencies.
