Job summary

Oldcastle Infrastructure in Avon, CT is seeking an experienced welder/fabricator capable of leading a molds fabrication team through blueprints from start to finish. This hands-on role offers a path to leadership within a CRH manufacturing environment.

The candidate will fabricate structural steel, operate various metalworking equipment, ensure safety, and mentor junior welders as production demands require. Strong teamwork and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in fabrication/manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read blueprints and fabricate from drawings.
  • Experience leading a team and coordinating workloads.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools and measuring instruments.
  • Experience with overhead cranes and safety procedures.
  • Operates metalworking machinery (plasma cutters, grinders, welders, drills, punches, press brakes, hydraulic presses, machining).
  • Demonstrates punctuality and reliability in a shop setting.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs and perform sitting/standing/kneeling/crouching work.

Responsibilities

  • Embody a strong safety culture and enforce CRH/Oldcastle safety policies.
  • Learn every shop process and optimize team workloads for production flow.
  • Fabricate steel components and structures from blueprints.
  • Fit, set, and assemble fabricated structures.
  • Cut and weld using MIG and other processes; inspect weld quality.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and organize materials and tools.
  • Track production, maintenance supplies and alert for restocking.
  • Attend daily production meetings and blueprint reviews.
  • Mentor junior welders and monitor team performance.

Job Summary

Avon Manufacturing is a custom manufacturer of steel molds for the CRH/Oldcastle Infrastructure nationwide family of precast concrete plants. Each mold is made to order based on custom designs and engineering. We are looking for an experienced welder/fabricator with a background in leading teams to manufacture molds from blueprints from start to finish using a variety of processes. This is a hands‑on path to leadership role.


Job Responsibilities

  • Embody a strong safety culture by displaying and enforcing CRH/Oldcastle safety policies and procedures
  • Learn every process in the shop from existing foreman and be able to make decisions and adjustments to team member workloads to optimize the flow of production
  • Steel fabrication of heavy gauge materials and components
  • Fitting, setting, and assembling fabricated structures
  • Cutting and welding with a variety of processes (primarily MIG welding)
  • Inspecting and testing welds
  • Enforce shop housekeeping procedures to ensure safe and well‑organized work areas
  • Track production, maintenance, safety consumables and alert management or vendors of the need for re‑stock
  • Attend daily production meetings
  • Attend blueprint reviews with other foreman and drafters
  • Overseeing team members' quality and control
  • Mentor and development junior welders as needed

Job Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in the following areas
  • Fabricating structural steel and plate
  • Leading a team preferably in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
  • Capable of fabricating from blueprints
  • Hand and power tool experience
  • Measuring instrument use and the ability to calculate/copy angles
  • Experience with overhead crane use, to include safety and proper rigging is necessary
  • Experience operating a variety of metalworking machinery (plasma cutters, grinders, welders, drills, punches, press brake, hydraulic presses, machining, exc.)
  • Punctuality and Reliability
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • The ability to sit/stand/kneel/crouch
