Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Lead Engineer for their substations department. The Ideal candidate would be an experienced substation design engineer having strong experience in Physical and/or P&C design and is ready to grow and lead a department of engineers, designers, and drafters. This individual will be the right-hand person of the department head, aiding in setting up engineering execution processes, upholding quality, creating learning resources, and mentoring/enabling future leaders of the group. This position would be primarily remote; thus, the candidate could live anywhere within the United States.
Roles and Responsibilities:
People Management
• Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and ensure the efficient cost-effective utilization of staff.
• Responsible for the profitable growth of the department; ensuring staffing levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.
• Responsible for performance management, hiring and general management of personnel.
Team Building
• Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and continuous learning within the engineering team.
• Provides guidance and direction to assigned direct reports, serving as a mentor for future leaders.
• Resolve conflicts constructively and ensure a positive team dynamic.
• Support career growth by identifying opportunities for professional development and upskilling.
Technical Skills
• Responsible of developing and implementing department wide training programs.
• Develops project execution and quality control processes for department wide implementation.
• Consistently and independently applies knowledge, complying with the client's quality processes.
• Reviews lower-level engineering work or assignments. Responsible for coordinating multiple disciplines and serving as the responsible charge for assigned projects.
Organizational Support
• Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work.
• Assists in the development of budgets, schedules, and resource planning across multiple projects.
• Identify project scope changes and support the PM in developing change management plans.
• Provides support to business development and project management office in pursuit activities.
Education and Qualifications:
• Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in design of substation facilities with a strong understanding of layout optimization and technical knowledge of major equipment associated with substation facilities.
• Previous experience of leading and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers/designers.
• Good communication skills and interest in engaging with Clients to grow relationships.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
• Strong understanding of Physical and Electrical/Controls.
• Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
• Working knowledge of procurement & contract administration.
• Working knowledge of the proposal process.
• The position will entail occasional travel to support field assignments, and meetings with clients and other organizations.
