Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a Supervisor and Senior Lead Substations Engineer to join and help build their growing Substations Department. Reporting to the Director of Substations Engineering, this individual will serve as the right hand to the department head—supporting engineering execution, upholding quality standards, mentoring junior staff, and helping shape the team’s structure and processes. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in Physical and/or Protection & Control (P&C) substation design and is eager to lead and inspire others. This is a remote position and open to qualified candidates located anywhere in the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

• Direct and coordinate work assignments across engineers, designers, and drafters
• Manage staffing, utilization, and team performance aligned with project goals
• Support recruitment, hiring, and performance reviews
• Mentor junior staff and develop future leaders

Process & Technical Execution

• Lead development of engineering execution workflows and QA/QC protocols
• Guide training and knowledge-sharing across the department
• Provide oversight on engineering deliverables; serve as engineer-of-record when required
• Coordinate across disciplines and ensure technical excellence on all projects

Organizational & Client Support

• Support resource planning, project budgeting, and scheduling
• Communicate client drivers and ensure alignment with deliverables
• Assist in proposal development and business development efforts
• Help identify and manage scope changes alongside project managers

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
• 10–12 years of experience in substation design (Physical and/or P&C)
• Prior experience leading and mentoring engineering/design teams
• Strong communication skills and client-facing experience
• Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, substation layout, and equipment
• Familiarity with procurement and contract administration
• Working knowledge of proposal development and project pursuit strategies
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license highly preferred
• Willingness to travel occasionally for field visits and client meetings
