Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Technical automotive training and several years of repair work.
• Experience leading and training a team of technicians.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review work of staff on engines and equipment.
• Plan and participate in complex mechanical maintenance and repairs.
• Train staff on maintenance and safety practices.
• Supervise use of repair equipment like lathes and welders.
• Verify accuracy and safety of work performed.
• Troubleshoot electrical, engine and chassis problems on city assets.
• Repair components such as alternators and relays.
• Perform welding and fabricate to ensure structural integrity.
• Conduct safety inspections and address hazards.
• Read blueprints and wiring diagrams for repairs.
• Estimate time and materials for jobs; requisition parts.
• May perform service writer duties as needed.
• May drive commercial vehicles for deliveries and road tests.
• Deliver and pick up city vehicles from vendors.
• Respond to emergency road calls and diagnose issues.
