The Senior Economic Editor organizes major projects, such as the Monetary Policy Report, and coordinates the editorial review of high-level policy materials, including reports to the Board and the FOMC and the speeches and congressional testimonies of Board members that are authored in the economics divisions. This editor is recognized as an expert in writing, editing, and publishing and routinely edits or rewrites text and designs and formats tables and figures in written materials and on the intranet and the Board's public websites maintained by the staff of the economics divisions.
The Program Direction Office (PDO) in the Division of Research & Statistics has an opening for a full-time senior or lead economic editor.
Senior and lead economic editors review and provide editorial guidance and coordination of the text, tables, and graphics in materials prepared by the staff of the Board's economics divisions. Using standard editorial techniques and a general knowledge of economics, senior and lead economic editors ensure that these materials conform to established standards of grammar, language usage, style, and format.
Senior and lead economic editors organize major projects such as the Monetary Policy Report; they also coordinate the editorial review of high-level policy materials, including reports to the Board and the FOMC, and speeches and congressional testimonies of Board members that are authored in the economics divisions. The editor is recognized as an expert in writing, editing, and publishing. Senior and lead economic editors exercise leadership to develop and mentor junior staff members and work closely with the section chief to manage editing assignments and to help push priorities forward.
Because AI is increasingly being used in writing and editing, PDO editors will be expected to work with the Board's AI experts to help develop and train these tools to gain expertise in using them; senior and lead editors will take a leadership role in these efforts. The AI work may include becoming proficient at writing prompts that guide the tool to deliver the desired output (context engineering), becoming adept at evaluating and using different editing tools, and sharing their knowledge about these tools and their relative benefits with colleagues across the research divisions.

The expected salary range for this role is $128,600 - $190,900, which spans all posted grades. Final offers are based on the grade for which you minimally qualify and we select for offer, and are determined by experience & education, as well as internal and external factors.
