Job summary

IPG Photonics in Marlborough, MA seeks a Laser Scientist to advance state-of-the-art laser technology within a core R&D team. You will contribute to prototype development, modeling, and characterization, interfacing with interdisciplinary groups.

The candidate will bring strong expertise in lasers, optics, and related numerical tools. The role emphasizes hands-on design, testing methodologies, and communication of technical results through reports and presentations.

Qualifications

• PhD in science or engineering (Physics preferred).
• 5+ years' experience with lasers, optics, and imaging systems.
• Experience in laser physics and optical spectroscopy.
• Experience with vacuum systems and UV-grade materials.
• Proficiency with MATLAB or Python; numerical modeling of lasers.

Responsibilities

• Participate in laser development projects
• Design, development and characterization of laser prototypes
• Develop laser test methodologies and automation
• Optical design of laser sub-systems
• Model complex systems including gain, nonlinear efficiency, thermal lensing, pointing and noise
• Advance materials and component characterization
• Generate reports and technical presentations
