Job summary

Apple Inc. in Cupertino, CA is seeking a Laser Safety Design Engineer for Camera Hardware to own end-to-end laser safety of illumination modules, from architecture through validation and high-volume production, enhancing imaging and depth sensing in Apple devices.

You will design optical/electrical subsystems, run simulations with LightTools/Zemax, collaborate with cross-functional teams, apply FMEA/FTA, and ensure compliance with IEC safety standards.

Qualifications

• BS in Physics, Electrical or Optical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with free-space laser/optical systems for imaging and sensing.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and optical modeling tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and specify optical and electrical subsystems architecture for mitigating optical hazards
• Validate optical safety architecture using simulations and experimental lab setups
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and solve issues related to laser safety architecture and processes
• Use analytical methods (FMEA, FTA) to track use cases and failure modes that violate laser safety compliance
• Stay abreast of IEC-60825, IEC-62471, IEC-62368 safety standards
