Job summary

Focused Energy's Austin laser team seeks a Senior Laser Engineer to anchor laser setup, alignment, and end‑to‑end optical layout for a kJ‑class laser system. You will own the beam path and diagnostic package, coordinating with senior scientists and Controls Engineering in a hands‑on, on‑site role.

You will translate beam path designs into physical layouts, produce complete BOMs, manage procurement, and drive automation interfaces while maintaining strict cleanroom protocols for

Qualifications

• Hands‑on experience with high‑power laser systems and precision beam alignment.
• Ability to translate beam path designs into optomechanical layouts and BOMs.
• Experience with laser diagnostic instrumentation, alignment, wavefront characterization, and cleanroom handling.

Responsibilities

• Own laser setup, alignment, and beam path implementation from layout to commissioning.
• Translate beam path designs into physical layouts and procure BOMs.
• Drive beam‑smothing designs and component procurement with team and vendors.
• Own the optical side of the laser diagnostic package including integration and calibration.
• Develop optical alignment automation interfaces with Controls Engineering.
• Ensure cleanroom protocols during optical handling and installation.
