Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Staff Laser Engineer to design and deliver state-of-the-art high- power laser facilities for the LCLS. You will work with scientists and engineers on laser conditioning, delivery, and diagnostics, ensuring high availability and robust uptime.

Responsibilities include detailed design, procurement, installation, alignment, and integration of optical systems, plus documentation and training to support operations and upgrades over a multi-year

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with relevant laser experience.
• Experience with high-average-power laser systems and high-energy laser system operation.
• Experience aligning lasers and optical systems; familiarity with optical metrology and diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Design laser and optical systems for beam conditioning, transport, and diagnostics.
• Lead procurement, installation, alignment, integration, and validation of complex laser systems.
• Provide engineering support for operations, maintenance, and upgrades of laser facilities.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to develop optomechanical support structures and alignment mechanisms.
• Document designs and develop training/operational support plans to maximize uptime.
• Work with scientists and engineers to ensure reliability and maintainability of laser systems.
