Job summary

James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA seeks an experienced part-time Landscape Worker to maintain campus grounds and support seasonal plantings. This weekday, year-round role offers hands-on landscape duties, equipment operation, and training opportunities.

The position is up to 29 hours per week, with overtime for events and weather. Employment is contingent on background check; E-Verify is used. Compensation is $16.50 per hour.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess working knowledge of general landscape maintenance.
• Candidates must be able to use manual and power tools, operate motor vehicles, tractors, trucks, and various types of landscape equipment such as mowers, weed-eaters, backpack blowers, chainsaws, and edgers.
• Candidates must also be able to follow verbal instructions, lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds with or without an accommodation, and do physically demanding work for extended periods of time.
• Must be at least 19 years old and have possessed a valid driver’s license for at least a total of 24 months at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• General landscape maintenance including weed-eating, mowing, raking, weeding, and mulching.
• Duties also include trash cleanup and litter removal.
• Maintenance of parking lots and roads for events and university areas.
• Operating utility vehicles may be required.
