Job summary

Carex Design Group in Knoxville, Tennessee, seeks a residential Landscape Architect or Designer with 1–2 years of professional experience to lead design development for high-end outdoor spaces. You’ll collaborate with a small, supportive team to translate client goals into concept sketches, detailed plans, and specifications from initial consultations through construction documentation.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture (BLA/BSLA/MLA) from an accredited program.
• Technical expertise in AutoCAD, SketchUp or similar 3-D modeling software, Adobe Creative Suite, and GIS software.
• STEAM & Analytical Skills: STEM-based site analysis, plant science, grading, environmental engineering with creative design.
• Outstanding visual communication, interpersonal skills and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead client consultations to understand project goals, vision, preferences, and requirements.
• Prepare and present project proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates and presentation materials.
• Collaborate with clients, the Principal Landscape Architect, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Gather and evaluate site data including topography, drainage, soils, and sun exposure.
• Develop landscape designs including site plans, hardscape layouts, planting plans.
• Select plant materials and site furnishings aligning with budget and design intent.
• Incorporate sustainable design principles and water management practices.
• Prepare CAD/drafting and 3D renderings to communicate design intent.
• Prepare construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with local ordinances, zoning, HOA guidelines.
• Manage design budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
• Provide technical leadership and feedback to junior designers.
• Support business development through client networking and marketing activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
