Job summary

Lower Merion Township in Pennsylvania seeks an experienced land use planner responsible for reviewing development applications, preparing planning reports, and guiding proposals through codes and zoning.

The role involves presenting to Planning Commission and public, coordinating with County agencies, and maintaining data and maps. AICP preferred; requires knowledge of MPC and strong MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and seven (7) years of increasingly responsible land use planning experience.
• Associate degree in urban planning or related field with five (5) years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field with three (3) years of experience.
• Must successfully pass all conditions of employment including a pre-employment physical.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.
• Experience with geospatial analysis tools preferred.
• Knowledge of state, county and local codes and MPC policies.

Responsibilities

• Review development applications and subdivision/land development proposals.
• Prepare planning memos, reports and long-range master plans.
• Present reviews to Planning Commission, ad-hoc committees and the public.
• Coordinate reviews with outside agencies and maintain data spreadsheets.
• Attend meetings and participate in steering committees as department representative.
