Senior Land Surveyor (Northern California)

Based in California, we are looking for a dedicated Senior Land Surveyor to grow with our collaborative team and work on a variety of electric distribution projects.
Typical job duties:
- Analyze survey data, construction drawings, maps, and legal documents.
- Prepare, review and QC documents for easement acquisition.
- Review and QC survey basemaps from other survey vendors.
- Coordinate with survey vendors for survey staking and basemap requests from client.
- Coordinate LiDAR flights and data transfer between client and survey vendor.
- Travel to various locations throughout Northern and Central California for project job walks, site meetings, and vendor safety observations.
- Attend job walks with the survey vendors’ field crews and observe their work to ensure safety procedures follow local, state, and federal regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Collaborate within a multi-discipline team and communicate with clients, subconsultants, site supervisors, and contractors.
- Adhere to company policies and service line procedures.
- Follow safety protocols and present safety messages when called upon during meetings.
- Attend and participate in scoping sessions and project meetings while representing Jacobs with a professional and courteous image at all times.
- Preserve and enhance the Jacobs brand through job knowledge and strategic project management.
- Complete daily time sheets, data logs, expense reports, and project updates in a timely manner.
- Complete all mandatory and ongoing applicable training sessions as required internally and by the client.
We'll also ask that you are:
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Google Earth, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Teams.
- Knowledgeable and experienced working with the Public Land Survey System (PLSS).
- Working knowledge and experience in boundary principles, topo surveys, reading title reports, writing, and plotting legal descriptions.
- Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing heavy workloads.
- Flexible with workstream, job tasks, and demonstrate a willingness to help clients with whatever is needed.
- A self-starter who is resourceful, works independently, and adaptable to working in a fast-paced team setting.
- Able and willing to travel and work in variable weather conditions and challenging terrain.
- Meticulous and pay close attention to detail.
- Capable and efficient working without immediate supervision; make technical and procedural decisions for assigned projects within specified limits of authority.
- Plan and prioritize daily activities to meet productivity goals.
- Communicate and share information with the vendors, project managers, land acquisition team, construction managers, land agents, survey vendors, and other office staff about all aspects of the project.
Here's what you'll need:
- California Professional Land Surveyor’s (PLS) license.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in applicable field of study.
- 5+ years’ experience in:
- Responsible charge managing multiple and concurrent projects.
- Drafting exhibit plats and record maps in AutoCAD.
- Plotting legal descriptions from deeds in AutoCAD.
- Boundary principles, reading title reports, and interpreting legal descriptions.
- Collecting and/or reviewing survey topo data.
- Preparing survey basemaps, land net, and topography in AutoCAD.
- Researching record maps, right-of-way maps, assessor tax maps, and deeds from public sources.
- Proven ability to complete all technical aspects of survey base mapping.
- Proven experience preparing easement documents and understanding legal descriptions.
- Good social, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work well remotely and collaboratively in teams.
- Reputation as a trusted and respected member of the surveying community.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- A basic understanding of land rights and reading construction drawings.
- Experience with GIS, KMZ creation, RealQuest, DataTree, LandVision, Salesforce, SAP, and ProjectWise.
Posted Salary Range: Minimum $96,100.00
Posted Salary Range: Upper $120,000.00
