Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a part-time Chemistry Lab Assistant to support the safe, efficient operation of chemistry teaching laboratories. You will prepare reagents, stock solutions, and secondary containers for teaching labs and set up apparatus for student experiments.

You will assist with routine instrument maintenance and collaborate with lab managers and faculty. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, experience in a lab setting, and the ability to work with

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of general and organic chemistry equivalent to two years of college.
• Experience working in a lab environment and with teaching labs.
• Proficiency using computers for data entry, record-keeping, and communication.
• Strong communication, organization, and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

Provides support to instructional faculty, during select early evening hours, such as stockroom service and backup in the case of a rare emergency.

Required Qualifications

• Working knowledge of general and organic chemistry equivalent to two years of college

chemistry with labs.

• Experience working in a lab environment.
• Experience using computers for tasks such as date entry, record-keeping using established systems, and electronic communication.
• Strong communication, organization, and trouble-shooting skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and to interact professionally with students, staff, and faculty.
• Customer service orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field.
