Job summary

The City of New York's Police Department Office of Labor Relations seeks an Executive Director, Labor Counsel to develop the Department's legal strategy for grievances, disciplinary hearings, arbitration and related litigation involving employees and unions.

Under the Deputy Commissioner’s direction, you will provide strategic labor and employment advice to senior executives, supervise attorneys, and participate in collective bargaining and labor-management discussions.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar and eligibility to practice law in New York.
• Four years of recent, full-time legal experience, including supervisory or executive-level work.
• Experience handling labor relations, collective bargaining or employment law.

Responsibilities

• Serve as chief labor law advisor to senior department leadership.
• Provide advice on labor law, employment law, disciplinary issues, and contractual interpretation.
• Manage employee grievances and disciplinary proceedings, including Step II hearings.
• Represent the Department in labor-management meetings and during collective bargaining.
