Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM seeks a Laboratory Support Technologist to join the Experimental Solid Mechanics Department. You will conduct high-strain-rate mechanical testing, set up SHPB instruments, and analyze results to support material models and national security projects.

This on-site role requires a Bachelor's of Science and 7+ years of experience, with strong data skills in Excel/Matlab/Python, and the ability to obtain a DOE Q-clearance.

Qualifications

• BSc plus seven (7) years of experience in high-strain-rate mechanical testing.
• Proficiency using Excel, Matlab and/or Python for calculations and data analysis.
• Hands-on experience in development/maintenance/servicing/repair of complex systems (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pressure, and/or vacuum).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform experimental mechanics testing on high-strain-rate load frames with advanced diagnostic techniques to characterize materials and structures.
• Set-up, program, and troubleshoot test equipment including Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) instruments.
• Support lab maintenance and calibration activities.
• Organize test data and prepare test documentation.
• Support research activities in mechanical characterization of materials and components in various environments; development of material models and diagnostics.
• Design, execute, analyze and communicate results with engineers and customers.
