Contract: U.S. EPA Response, Engineering and Analytical Contract (REAC)

Status: Full Time

Travel: Up to 25 percent

Salary Range: $80,000 to $95,000 DOE

Office Site/Remote/Hybrid: Office (Laboratory)

Who are YOU?

You are an experienced Senior Level Laboratory Chemist. In this role, you will conduct routine and non-routine GC/MS analyses on air, soil, water and oil organic matter using EPA Methods in fixed and mobile lab environments. Familiar with and has experience in an environmental analysis laboratory, capable of problem solving and using reliable analysis data obtained by various analytical techniques. Candidates should be able to multitask, be highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently, with minimal supervision.

What does your day/week look like?

  • Perform GC/MS analyses while operating from mobile laboratory platforms and/or in fixed site laboratory.
  • Perform analysis using EPA methods, e.g. 8260, 8270 and TO series.
  • Preparation of standards and reagents.
  • Interpret mass spectral data using libraries to elucidate structures.
  • Preparation of clear and concise reports from data.
  • Perform routine operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments/equipment.
  • Handle and work with hazardous materials, working safely and independently in a chemical laboratory environment.
  • Developing and validating methods using GC with various detectors, including FID, PID, and MS.
  • Preparation of various samples using techniques including dissolution, liquid-liquid extraction, separatory funnel extraction, soxtherm extraction, and solid phase extraction.

What do you need for this amazing opportunity?

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or in a closely related scientific discipline is required.
  • 14 years of analytical chemistry experience in Toxic Organic (TO) air methods and/or SW-846 methods for soil, water and oil organic analyses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, WORD and Excel.
  • Possess a general knowledge of organic chemistry fundamentals; theoretical understanding of chromatography and mass spectrometry theory; and the ability to understand terminology and principles in order to comply with analytical methods.
  • Experience working with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Possess a current Medical Certification or be able to obtain one.
