Who Are You?

You are an experienced Mass Spectroscopy/TAGA Emergency Response Chemist supporting EPA's Emergency Response Team (ERT)/Response Engineering and Analytical Contract (REAC). This role involves laboratory testing at the EPA Edison Laboratory and mobile laboratory support nationwide. Candidates should be highly organized, self-motivated, capable of multitasking, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Daily/Weekly Responsibilities
  • Perform TO-15 gas analysis and GC-MS/MS analysis of air samples
  • Perform VOC analysis by Method TO-15 using Agilent GC/MS systems
  • Review organic analytical data for completeness and integrity
  • Conduct stationary and mobile air monitoring using GC/MS/MS Trace Atmospheric Gas Analyzer (TAGA)
  • Perform vapor intrusion and indoor air sampling, including sub-slab port installation/sampling
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instruments
  • Prepare reagents, standards, and samples
  • Interpret data, create Electronic Data Packages (EDP), and upload results to Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Input data into modeling software and EPA dispersion models
  • Review SOPs, conduct internal audits, and implement corrective actions
  • Support general lab operations and field activities as needed
Qualifications

Requirements include:

  • BS in Chemistry or related scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including analytical chemistry support
  • Experience with laboratory safety and QA/QC
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Ability to work across disciplines
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and be on-call outside regular hours
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. and obtain security clearances
  • At least 21 years old, with a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., wear a respirator, and pass medical clearance
  • Ability to complete environmental training (e.g., OSHA HAZWOPER certification)
