Job summary

Edison Scientific is building AI scientist agents and needs a Principal Member of Technical Staff to design, scale, and operate the core platform infrastructure. You will own the infrastructure foundation for resilient scheduling, lifecycle management, and resource orchestration at scale, partnering with researchers and engineers to accelerate science.

Qualifications

• Typically 10+ years in infrastructure or platform engineering with hands-on Kubernetes in production.
• Experience designing CRDs and Kubernetes operators (Kubebuilder, Operator SDK, controller-runtime).
• Experience operating and scaling Kubernetes clusters with thousands of resources.
• Deep understanding of Kubernetes internals and scale behavior.
• Expertise with cloud networking and storage in AWS/GCP/Azure.
• Proficiency in at least one systems or backend language for operators.
• Hands-on IaC and GitOps workflows.

Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and operate Kubernetes clusters with high availability.
• Design and develop CRDs and Kubernetes operators for AI agent lifecycles and workloads.
• Drive cluster scaling strategies, node pools, autoscaling, and quotas.
• Build and maintain IaC tooling for reproducible environments.
• Design robust scheduling, placement, and affinity for heterogeneous workloads.
• Establish observability, monitoring, alerts, and incident response practices.
• Own storage and networking strategy within Kubernetes including CSI and service mesh.
• Troubleshoot cross-system infra issues and mentor others.
• Collaborate with backend/ML/research teams to translate requirements into infra patterns.
