CoreWeave is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Systems Engineering team to own kernel tracing and patching across Kubernetes and container runtimes. You will debug complex failures, trace root causes in the Linux kernel, and upstream fixes where appropriate.

This role requires deep kernel internals mastery and collaboration with multiple teams. You will work on cgroups, namespaces, the CFS scheduler, memory management, and the orchestration stack to ensure reliable, scalable compute for

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in Linux kernel engineering or systems-level development.
• Deep understanding of kernel internals: memory management, scheduling, cgroups, namespaces.
• Hands-on with cgroups (v1 and/or v2) and namespaces for container isolation.
• Experience debugging kernel crashes, panics, hangs, and dumps with crash, gdb, or kdump.
• Strong C programming skills with ability to write upstream-quality code.
• Working knowledge of container and Kubernetes stack: containerd, runc, kubelet, CRI.
• Cross-domain debugging to identify kernel vs container/runtime root causes.

Responsibilities

• Debug and fix issues that span kernel and Kubernetes boundary.
• Investigate pod/namespace issues at fleet scale and derive root causes.
• Debug kernel crashes and hangs using specialized tools and patch upstream when applicable.
• Work across container runtime stack to understand kernel surface behavior.
• Develop and upstream Linux kernel patches where appropriate.
• Build diagnostics and observability tooling for kernel and cgroup visibility.
• Collaborate with hardware, platform, HPC, and fleet teams for production readiness.
