Job description

Embark on a transformative journey as a Senior KDB Data Engineer. At Barclays, our vision is clear - to redefine the future of banking and help craft innovative solutions. We aim to modernize, simplify, and standardize our KDB stack. KDB+ is a key part of the Data Strategy, and this team interacts with senior stakeholders daily. The estate is one of the largest across the street, providing key insights into design patterns used. There are challenges and opportunities as we move towards containerization and cloud-native products. Exploring Pykx, Data bricks, Snowflake integration with KX are some of the exciting projects in the pipeline.

To succeed as a Senior KDB Data Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • Excellent Q/Kdb+ programming skills on Linux
  • Development experience in front office and electronic trading systems
  • Knowledge of agile and SDLC processes
  • Experience with Maven, Java, Git, Team City, Jira, and Confluence

Additional valued skills include:

  • A strong academic record with a numerate degree of 2:1 or higher, e.g., computer science, maths, physics, engineering
  • Full lifecycle development on at least one large commercial system, ideally focusing on significant development of large distributed Kdb+ systems

You may be assessed on key skills relevant to success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology skills, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in our New York, NY office.

Salary range: $170,000 - $227,000 (base salary, excluding other compensation or benefits)

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain systems that collect, store, process, and analyze data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and secure.

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintain data architecture pipelines for data transfer and processing
  • Design and implement data warehouses and data lakes with appropriate security measures
  • Develop processing and analysis algorithms suitable for data complexity and volume
  • Collaborate with data scientists to build and deploy machine learning models
