Job description

Embark on a transformative journey as a Senior KDB Data Engineer. At Barclays, our vision is clear - to redefine the future of banking and help craft innovative solutions. We look to modernize, simplify, and standardize our KDB stack. KDB+ is a key part of the Data Strategy, and this team is therefore interacting with senior stakeholders on a day-to-day basis. The estate is one of the largest across the street and you will get key insights on the design patterns being used. The challenge and opportunity areas, as we move to the world of containerization and cloud native products. Exploring Pykx, Data bricks, Snowflake integration with KX are some of the exciting projects in the pipeline.


To be successful as a Senior KDB Data Engineer you should have experience with:

  1. Q/Kdb+ programming skills on Linux
  2. Development experience in front office and electronic trading systems
  3. Considerable knowledge of agile and SDLC processes
  4. Experience with Maven, Java, Git, Team City, Jira, and Confluence

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  1. Considerable academic record with a numerate degree of 2:1 or higher- e.g., computer science, maths, physics, engineering
  2. Full life-cycle development on at least 1 large commercial system, with ideal candidate focusing on significant development of large distributed Kdb+ systems

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.


This location is in New York.

Minimum Salary: $134,000

Maximum Salary: $175,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.


Purpose of the role

To build and maintain the systems that collect, store, process, and analyse data, such as data pipelines, data warehouses and data lakes to ensure that all data is accurate, accessible, and secure.


Accountabilities

  1. Build and maintenance of data architectures pipelines that enable the transfer and processing of durable, complete and consistent data.
  2. Design and implementation of data warehouses and data lakes that manage the appropriate data volumes and velocity and adhere to the required security measures.
  3. Development of processing and analysis algorithms fit for the intended data complexity and volumes.
  4. Collaboration with data scientists to build and deploy machine learning models.

  7. Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  8. Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  9. Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  10. Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  12. Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
