Job summary

STRATEGIC MINDZ LLC in Albany, NY is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join the CSMS modernization team. You will design, develop, and maintain microservices and cloud-native applications that support child support case management, with a focus on Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and robust REST APIs.

Collaborating with architects and business analysts, you will implement scalable batch jobs, contribute to CI/CD pipelines, review code, and mentor junior developers.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java 21 features (records, sealed classes, pattern matching, virtual threads).
• Proven experience designing and building microservices architectures with service decomposition, API gateway, service discovery, and distributed config.
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot and Spring ecosystem (MVC, Data, Security, Cloud).
• Hands-on experience with Spring Batch for large-scale batch processing.
• Solid understanding of Hibernate/JPA for ORM and DB interaction.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Proven track record building and consuming RESTful APIs with versioning and contract-first design.
• Experience with inter-service communication patterns (REST, messaging, event-driven).
• Experience deploying and operating microservices on AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) for deployment pipelines.
• Strong understanding of design patterns, SOLID principles, and clean code.
• Experience with Git version control and collaborative workflows.
• Understanding distributed systems concerns: fault tolerance, circuit breakers, retries, observability.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain microservices using Spring Boot with domain-driven design.
• Build and deploy loosely coupled services with clear API contracts.
• Develop scalable web apps, REST APIs, batch jobs, and integrations.
• Develop and optimize Spring Batch jobs for large-scale data processing.
• Implement data access with Hibernate/JPA against PostgreSQL.
• Manage inter-service communication via REST and messaging.
• Collaborate with architects and analysts to translate requirements.
• Mentor junior developers and review code.
• Troubleshoot distributed systems and resolve issues.
• Contribute to CI/CD improvements and deployment automation.
• Write unit and integration tests for quality.
• Work with cross-functional teams on system integrations.
